Beyond Mutantstein Special Edition is a Spear of Destiny mod/tribute project by the Wolfenstein community, originally released on December 26, 2002.
Description[]
The mod was dedicated to the notable Wolfenstein 3D modder, John Bucksnort, who had passed away in September 2001.
The project was coordinated by BrotherTank and Brian Lowe. In many respects, the mod was the first notable community effort, and would pave the way for the DieHard Wolfers' TC and the Map of the Month contest. The set includes 21 maps from 15 different mappers as well as various code changes and graphic contributions.
The source code was later released, and a handful of mods would eventually use it as a base. One of the most noteworthy changes includes guards being able to open secret doors.

Originally released as a DOS mod in late December 2002, a small patch was issued in January 2003 that dealt with a mapping issue. This was labeled as v1.1 and was henceforth the only available DOS version.
With its tenth anniversary dawning, a new tribute project was undertaken sometime in the summer of 2012. This project went on while all of Bucksnort's older sets were in the process of being ported to SDL. Eventually, the original 2002 set was ported to SDL and released on November 18, 2012, anticipating the anniversary project by a month.
