Dead World Rising 2 is the second mod by Great Wasabi. It was released on April 16, 2004 - four months after its predecessor.

Background[]

The set was announced on January 7, 2004 where Mario Maniac and Mega Luigi were mentioned as helping out with coding, and Sockdude also being on board for help. For the final release, Wolf Skevos-Jones also lent a hand. Majik Monkee was thanked for graphical work.

Description[]

The mod is based on registered Wolfenstein 3D, and maintains the episodic flow. As with its predecessor, the set carries a heavy DOOM influence. This is particularly evident in the soundtrack, which includes plenty of DOOM music in addition to numerous other new pieces. Quite a few coding changes were included, such as the menu font having been changed, and most if not all of the graphics have been completely replaced. An ammo box was also featured.

Several levels were left unfinished at various positions in the GAMEMAPS file, suggesting that Great Wasabi envisioned a full 60-level set. All six episode names were also changed. Sadly the mod was never finished. However, the download file contains mapping data files for MapEdit, suggesting that Great Wasabi might have had envisioned people finish off the mod themselves if they so desired.

Release history[]

A 10-level demo had been released on February 21, 2004. This included only Episode 1. It was mentioned that the set was nearing completion in late February, which is at odds with the aforementioned unfinished maps after level 20. It may be the case that Great Wasabi had only envisioned 20 levels for the final version, as with its predecessor.

In late February, Great Wasabi stated that his computer had some issues. Luckily all the material for Dead World Rising 2 had been backed up, and there were no losses. The second episode was finished the 20-level version was released on April 16, 2004. A mapping bug was discovered at E2M5 and some other issues were fixed, and a patch was released on May 4, 2004. This replaced the previous version, and proved to be the final one.
