General background and modding history[]
Born in Ukraine in 1978, immigrated to Israel at age 12. Began inventing card and board games long before his first computer. During the 90s became a fan of video games and early 3D shooters and has been making games and mods since 2005. Made his first games on CliK&Play and later Game Maker, then after joining the Doom modding community (NewDoom forum at first) under DoomJedi nick, contributed to Skulltag and much later to Blade of Agony as its main spriter. As a member of "Commander Keen" modding community over PCKF forum participated as a spriter in "Keen Meets the Meats" modhas an active (revived) project "BomberKeen".
His main focus is spriting and art. "WolfTC for Doomsday" project led by Vermil gradually led him to join DHW Forum to focus mainly on Wolfenstein 3D modding, Since he released many known Wolf3D mods as a leading member of Team RayCast, creating and maintaining "Team RayCast modding forum" for Wolf3D mods development, later also creating "Team Raycast" discord server. Currently seems to be retired from active modding, while maintaining some presence on DHW forum and some Discord channels, and supporting a few of promising Wolf3D modders.
Nick origins and meaning[]
The nick "DoomJedi" was chosen while registering on NewDoom forum (largest Doom forum at the time) and seeing that all normal nicks were already taken. It mixes the love for Doom (trying registering to a Doom forum) and being a fan of "StarWars" saga. Since the nick was kept on all platforms for consistency and being recognized. Early avatar depicted a screen of Quake 3 DoomGuy (with DoomJedi's face pasted over) over last area of Doom's E1M9 in Doomsday port with a lightsaber drawn in his hand. Current avatar has a Wolf3D Boss-base edit of Doomguy with a lightsaber, which can reflect his evolution from Doom to Wolf3D modding.
Personal information[]
DoomJedi has B.Sc in electronic engineering, lives in the city of Karmiel in Northern Israel, married, works as chief laborant of Department of Electronics Engineering in Braude College of Engineering. Has a dog named Persik ("peach" in russian).
Hobbies[]
His hobbies include gaming, modding and retro gaming, drawing and pixel art. retro collecting, NES hacking, physics, astronomy, science, philosophy, Bible study and study of religions, ancient texts and mythologies, ancient law, Sumerology, archeology, collecting of gum wrappers and liners. Though currently an atheist and active skeptic - has extensive knowledge of religion (especially of Old Testament, with special expertise on Garden of Eden myth) and New Age teachings, Esotherics and Theosophy. Has diplomas in Reiki 1 and Reconnective Healing. Has special place for board games, especially chess (former professional chess player), also for optics/telescopes and swiss knifes. DoomJedi promotes rational and critical thinking, skepticism and has daily debates with religious people, mainly on facebook. He manages facebook groups for retro gaming, atheism/skepticism and retro nostalgia/collecting - all in russian, has mirrored groups on russian VK as well.
Personal picks and preferences[]
His favorite author is Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and favorite science fiction author - Philip K. Dick (is a big fan of "Blade Runner" franchise and post-apocaliptic/cyberpunk thematic). Huge fan of "Rocky" series of movies and especially "Rocky 1", admires Silvester Stallone. In the past has been huge Jim Carrey fan. His favorite film director is Christopher Nolan, admires almost all of his movies. Loves Matrix movies as well and John Wick universe. Big fan of Marvel movie universe including TV series. Is long-time "StarWars" fan since he watched "Empire Strike Back" as a child.
