Leiche Soldat is a mod for registered Wolfenstein made by Gary Ragland. It was released on June 13, 2014.
Background[]
The mod had been more or less unofficially announced in July 2005, when Ragland posted a DHW topic describing taking a stab at one last add-on. Though no mod using the 128x128 grid had been made at that time, Ragland nevertheless stated he had gotten it to work and that the mod would feature only 4 levels with an estimated due date of October 2005. This did not come to be, however, and after a few sporadic posts in the wake of the thread, Ragland would keep a low profile and not return to the forums properly until 2013.
Genesis[]
Eight years in the making, the mod was Gary Ragland's first mod in 12 years. In terms of storyline, it is the prequel to Schabbs 2000. Ragland constructed the levels using the 128x128 grid, opting for a vast array of rooms and corridors, though still using only 2 keys. Another Ragland trademark is the lack of a title screen, though this might be intentional, as the storyline is by far and large based on Episode 1.
Description[]
13 levels are featured, and all use the entire 128x128 grid to excess. Changed ceiling colors, seamless level flow and level names displayed on Get Psyched! screen are among the coding changes. The audio files from Wolfenstein 3D are needed in order to play. Though the music order has been changed, no new music has been added.
Reception[]
Though initially received well upon release, Gary Ragland later admitted that some levels suffered from bloat, but that some of the levels, including level 10, were originally conceived for Schabbs 2000. There was also some novelty in the fact that it had been more than a decade since Ragland had released a new mod.
Ports[]
Though the mod had been made and released in SDL, Chris Chokan managed to put together a DOS version. This was shared on August 13, 2014. The download includes only the EXE.
