Projekt: Vertilgung is a mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by Zach Higgins. Initially released as a demo in 2001, the final version (Phase II) was released on March 17, 2004.

Genesis[]

Initially released as a 10-level demo on November 29, 2001 the first final version came out on January 5, 2003. This was later revised, and the actual final version, also titled Phase II Final v1.4 was released on March 17, 2004. It was stylized Projekt (German), though some early versions list is as Project.

Announced on November 17, 2001 and featuring coding by James Ingham, many screenshots and different title screens were posted over the following months. The project also had its own website, which remained active through most of 2002. On January 6, 2002 several screenshots were posted, and seamless level flow, God mode artifacts, breakable items, new weapons and new tiles (including doors) were added. On February 2, 2002 a series of screenshots was posted illustrating the breaking glass feature.

On May 5, 2002, Higgins stated he only had one level to make before it could be released. Whether or not this indicated that it had been decided that the final version should feature 20 levels or not is not certain. Upon announcement in 2001, and according to the Read This! it is obvious that 60 levels were meant to be featured; 10 of which should have been secret levels. Furthermore, secret level 51 is fully available and playable (accessed from level 6).

Nevertheless, when it was eventually released in January 2003 it was in unfinished form, and the final boss level, level 20, could not be completed. It was later edited to make the mod somewhat able to be completed. Higgins left the project in early 2003, leaving the chores of coding and release in the hands of James Ingham. Several restarts were attempted, but the 21-level unfinished version is currently the only playable version.

Description[]

The mod features 21 levels; 20 regular and 1 secret. Many new sounds and graphics are featured, either uniquely edited or originating in Totengraeber, Spear Resurrection and The Final Solution v2.0. Some unfinished material is featured, including a flamethrower guard complete with marching frames. This guard was later finished by WolferCooker. Coding changes include an additional three weapons, four keys, breakable items, seamless level flow, extra added items and uniquely colored locked doors.

Ports[]

The 10-level demo was later ported to SDL by Officer-Michael John. This version is mainly cosmetically enhanced as the original demo did not feature any coding changes.
