Revival of Memories is a mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by Brian Lowe. It was released on March 11, 2006.

Description[]

The mod features 39 seamless levels (37 regular and 2 secret) and a large number of new graphics and features. Many of these graphics were put together by Parafriction. Some of these also appear in The Final Solution v3.0. Coding changes included 3D directional sprites, 64+ walls, exploding barrels, switch-operated doors, and two extra added weapons - missile launcher and shotgun.

Originally close to being finished in 2002, the mod was shelved for some time before being revamped in 2005 with the aid of MCS, eventually seeing official release in March 2006.

Genesis[]

The project was initially undertaken as a collaborative effort between Brian Lowe and Parafriction, the same team who ran the Wolfenstein 3D Dome. On September 16, 2002 a series of screenshots were added to the Dome news. On October 19, 2002 it was announced that all 39 levels were finished for the project, and the only remaining tasks had to do with the source code and some of the graphics. Revival of Memories even had its own dedicated website (see below) on the Dome. Starting in January 2003, no further updates on the mod were posted. Parafriction left the project, with many of the initial ideas and coding changes that were announced initially being retired in favor of a more streamlined, classic Wolfenstein 3D mod. Nevertheless, some novel features were retained, including breakable items, exploding death frames upon using the missile launcher, switch-operated doors and 3D directional sprites.

In May 2005, an eager Thomas asked Brian via MSN Messenger in no uncertain terms that if he had Revival of Memories lying around still, it should very well be released. The original reason for the delay was the same as it had been in 2002; the source code and the graphics had to be properly finished. The main issue was the standing frames of the new enemy replacing the dog. It was suggested to replace the dog with an enemy from a then-recent WSJ Heer guards pack, and after a proper fix-up of the code by MCS, the project eventually saw the light of day.

Ports[]

An SDL port was first released on October 10, 2010. This was later updated and reissued on September 22, 2012.
