Sensenmann is a mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by Mäx. It was released on April 9, 2004.

Genesis[]

A screenshot of the splash screen was first posted on February 7, 2004. Initial April 9 release featured material that went uncredited, including a tombstone sprite from Haunted House. This was later replaced and proper credits were issued in the updated version that came out on April 20.

The mod's title roughly translates as The Grim Reaper, and the protagonist indeed brandishes a scythe.

Three months in the works, the mod was lauded upon release as being a true-to-life horror-themed mod with many coding changes, such as floor and ceiling textures, outside atmosphere, lighting effects, a motorbike and new weapons.

Description[]

20 new levels are featured, spread across six episodes, with some episodes containing secret levels. The mod features Blood material, including sounds, music, textures and other assets, and even uses Caleb quotations (over-riding various game sounds) and face in its HUD; it also borrows quite heavily from DOOM including textures, sprites and enemy from the game. From the world of Wolfenstein 3D modding, material from Spear Resurrection, Project: Weltuntergang, Western Wall I and Totengraeber has also been put to use. Numerous graphics were however newly converted or uniquely made.

References[]

The title screen was based on that of Kristallnacht. A newly constructed Freddie Krueger is also featured as boss, and there are other numerous references to various horror and action films, some of which have been listed on the end screen.
