Tekkoudan is a mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by Ben Blaufarb. It was released on July 15, 2000.
Genesis[]
Work commenced in October 1999, initially as an RPG, but this was later changed to a Wolfenstein 3D mod, initially titled Neo Wolf 2 and envisioned as a sequel to that mod.
Description[]
The mod features 3 levels and is an unfinished v0.3 alpha version. Many new graphics are featured, along with many new sounds and a modern atmosphere, including slicker automatic weapons and gritty, urban wall textures. Among the many new sprites included are lap top tables, traffic cones, syringes and manhole covers. The status bar has also been completely overhauled, sporting a modern look with digital numbers and a masked protagonist. Some new sounds are also featured, though some of the weapon sounds originated in Half-Life. As Tekkoudan was only released as an alpha, no new music is featured. Coding changes include new menu, intermission art, four keys, different pickups and most importantly - a teleportation artifact. Preceding Spear Resurrection by almost 18 months, Tekkoudan was the first mod to implement teleportation.
The final release schedule for late 2001 was supposed to feature a brand new palette, new music and had code contributions by Nate Smith.
Legacy[]
The mod was never finished but had a dedicated site that was since abandoned. Ben Blaufarb did not release any further projects. Many of the graphics from Tekkoudan lived on in many mods afterward that attempted to depict a modern atmosphere, most of all the green-suited rifle guards, that were in essence heavily edited SS guards. Container banks and corrugated iron textures were also put to use many other times, and the gray brick texture with brown wood paneling at the bottom very much depicted a classic office building.
