Should not be confused with the Wolfenstein 3D-based series of WADs also known as WolfenDOOM mods.

WolfenDOOM is a mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by AReyeP. The mod was actually finished in early 1996, but appeared on the Wolfenstein 3D Dome only on November 11, 2000. This version was based on Wolfenstein 3D v1.1 and used mapping and VSWAP files dated to January 1996. All other files were the originals, with no new title screen. The storyline was included as a text file.

On January 13, 2001 the mod was re-released for Wolfenstein 3D v1.4 with a new title screen (seen to the right), an added Read This! in which the storyline, formerly a text document, had been slotted in. A detailed level guide also followed in a text file. Other features included changed episode names and changed ENDART also appeared at the end of each episode.

Contents[]

The mod takes all its imagery from DOOM and puts it in a Wolfenstein 3D atmosphere, making for a classic nostalgia gameplay. Many sounds from the game are also featured.

It is played in an episodic flow, and mapping is of high quality. Some of these maps had originally been made by AReyeP for the obscure CIGWolf a few years beforehand.

Though DOOM imagery had figured in mods before this, WolfenDOOM was the first mod to utilize its content exclusively and with more power and better detail in sprites and sounds than previously; certainly it was a step up the ladder from early efforts such as The Doom Patch and Doomenstein.

Ports[]

An SDL port was released on February 26, 2011 making it one of the earliest older mods to be ported. This project was overseen by Zdude.

In 2016, AstroCreep ported the mod to work with ECWolf, though this lacked story screens and some levels did not function properly. In 2019, AstroCreep finally rectified this mistake, re-porting the mod to ECWolf and making it function as normal.

An unofficial sequel of sorts was created by Joshua Waight called WolfenDOOM II: The Depths of Hell.
