Wolfenstein: Special Edition is the fifth mod released by Luke Strauman. In the pipeline for a while, it was released three weeks after his previous mod, Himmler's SS, on February 2, 2002.

Genesis[]

The mod had been in the pipeline since 2000, with a major news update being posted on January 13, 2001. Many screenshots, a full list of features as well as a 4-level beta version was made available on that date. This beta version features material that was not included in the final release; for example, Episode 4 was available as "The Devil", featuring one level that read Floor 666 on the status bar.

Description[]

The mod was finalized and released in February 2002. 21 levels are featured, to be played in an episodic flow. Graphics are streamlined and focused on the atmosphere of classic Wolfenstein 3D, though the shotgun from DOOM is featured, complete with reloading.

A brand new status bar with bold numbers was also a noteworthy addition.
