Wolfenstein 3D: The Final Campaign is an upcoming mod for registered Wolfenstein, made by Thomas Weiling.

Genesis[]

Work started on the mod in July 2022, and the mod is in many ways a continuation of OVERKILL. The mod set out to further revamp and restore most of the Wolf Overkill maps, with many maps using the leftover Wolf Overkill maps that were not a part of OVERKILL as a springboard. Most maps have been more or less 90 % redesigned with most being virtually different to their Wolf Overkill origin, but as Thomas viewed that set as being more or less unfinished and rushed, these maps will count only in Wolfenstein 3D: The Final Campaign as being truly finished.

Description[]

The mod features all bosses from Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny with most of those from the Spear of Destiny mission packs being present as well. Countless extra enemies have been added, including a chaingun-wielding mutant, extra SS and numerous officer- and guard supports in differently colored uniforms. Other features include switch-operated doors and pushwalls, switch-operated Tesla coils, simultaneous pushwall movement, 3D directional sprites, teleportation artifact, God mode artifact, infinite ammo artifact, destructible columns, oil drums and nuclear barrels, missile launcher, chainsaw, motorbike, tile-based variants in floor-/ceiling colors in the same map (known internally as the boundary feature) and much more. Some of these were featured in OVERKILL, but for Wolfenstein 3D: The Final Campaign, AlumiuN added many extra features.

Some of the more extravagant features here included a Mutant God Mode artifact, which only the mutants could pick up, rendering them invincible for some time before running out, akin to how BJ would pick up a similar artifact. This artifact is however destructible; so the sooner the player locates these artifacts, the better; if not, there are invincible mutants running amok! Furthermore, the player will be rewarded each time 100,000 points have been accumulated with half a minute of invincibility. This was added to make treasure collecting more viable and interesting for players.

New music and new sounds are also featured, with most of the music relying heavily on all installments of the DOOM trilogy. Some classic tracks are featured as well, in slightly different versions, along with some real-life music previously unheard in any Wolfenstein 3D mod.

Future[]

In late 2023, AlumiuN suffered a hard drive backup malfunction which caused the source code to be lost. The set languished for roughly a year, with Thomas contemplating dumbing down the maps and making the mod simply based on the already existing OVERKILL EXE. Cooler heads prevailed, and by help of Nexion, the many features got reinstated and some bugs got ironed out, with several extra features added on top that visually altered the gameplay, such as shading being the standard floor rendering and BJ being able to pick up the Mutant God Mode with terrible, painful results. In early 2025, mapping continued after eight months without any activity, with 72 maps being finished come the early summer of 2025. Whether or not this number will be expanded is still uncertain.
